Echo Chamber
I’m writing the song of the decade, please don't interrupt
The lyrics were chosen to entertain and instruct
The rhythm was stolen from a poet who was down on his luck
And the ink I used was designed to self-destruct
Don’t believe in violence but the riots made it hard to resist
After steering the weatherman’s face into somebody’s fist
All that they wanted was a comfortable place to exist
But the details are had to recall, let me check with my list
The scientists were certain that the problem had a technical fix
But the men behind the curtain were up to their usual tricks
Lining their pockets with rockets and stoking conflicts
Afterwards I was left sitting in a pile of sticks
The TV screen wired like a scarecrow is hard to ignore
Truth tried to make an appearance but was shown to the door
And both sides of the story were funded by King Nevermore
Who fed all the nouveau rich with the eyes of the poor
The digital wasteland is a plethora of satisfaction
Where what matters most is evoking some kind of reaction
Because the engines are stalled and the tires they don’t get any traction
But the race to the bottom is on by the laws of subtraction
I used to be so careful about how I wasted my energy
Analyzing and disguising all the details that didn’t want to see
Then naming and blaming everyone except the true enemy
Until the only one standing was someone who looked just like me
